Solution... |

You
cannot access internet pages and get the error message
"this Page cannot be Displayed". |
First
of all, make sure all your gear is powered up. |
Second, rebooting (unplugging
the power and restarting the computer) solves 99%
of the connectivity issues. |
|
Open
your network connections (in your lower right hand
corner), right click the one you use (typically
local area connection) select properties. Make sure
you have tcp/ip set-up as an items. Make sure you
have the proper IP this is often done by selecting
automatically detect settings (tcp/ip). |
Open
a command prompt [Start->Run->Cmd] and type in ipconfig
/release. Wait a bit, then type ipconfig /renew. |
|
This
may also be a problem with the website itself (i.e..
down for maintenance, server is down etc.) |
|
Make
sure your Network (typically local area connection)
is not disabled under Network Properties. |

I cannot
access the internet in my browser and/or use e-mail |
Open
a command prompt [Start->Run->Cmd] and type in ping
www.google.ca
or
www.apple.com. |
|
Pinging
www.google.ca or
www.apple.com
gives you a message stating a reply and details |

connection to your server and domain is working.
There may be a problem with the website, server
configuration or internet browser. |
|
Pinging
www.google.ca
or
www.apple.com
will give “Request Timed Out.” or you otherwise
have no response. |

is a problem with the connection to your server,

|
What
might be wrong with my internet connection? |
Common
problems can be fixed by rebooting your router,
your radio, and/or your computer. If nothing else
can be done phone a computer specialist. |

reach other websites on the internet but not the
specific website? |

the plug-ins you are using or OS. |
|
My connection
will sometimes freeze or I cannot use a web browser
while AIM or IM will work. |
Sometimes
viruses can interfere with function of the internet
sometimes without other signs present of infection.
Some of the time through absolutely no apparent
reason glitches can occur, sometimes waiting 10
minutes and retrying what you did previously will
solve your problem and you will have no re-occurrences! |
|
My homepage
is different than normal or when I try to access
a page I will actually go to another. |
Some
viruses will change files in your computer to redirect
what dns address you actually find. Some also cause
different icons to be displayed on your toolbar,
desktop, system tray etc. |

Can
you retrieve email from your
webmail and not
regular e-mail program |
Your
e-mail server is working - the problem may be with
your outlook settings or with your browser. |
| Question: |
Solution... |
|
My e-mail program is not accessing or sending mail.
|
First
check to see if your Internet connection is working.
Try to use a web browser to access
http://www.google.ca
and
http://www.apple.com.
If you cannot access
websites, you have a problem with your Internet
connection. |
|
My browser
does open what next? |
Check
if you can access web mail, if you can, the problem
is on your computer. The most common problem is
virus protection software that is blocking e-mail.
However, sometimes the problem is related to the
e-mail software. For example, your e-mail folders
may be too large for your computer system. |
