  • "Legal Land Location""LEGAL DESCRIPTIONS OF LOCATIONS" The legal descriptions are given in Alberta Township System (ATS) co-ordinates. A township within a specified range is a six-mile square, with 36 sections. Each section is a one mile (approximately 1609 metres) square. A legal description is given in the order of section-townshiprange- meridian, x offset and y offset. The x offset (first four numbers after the meridian) indicates how many metres west the location is from the NE corner of the section. The y offset (last four numbers) indicates how many metres south the location is from the NE corner of the section.
